Sanjay Shah Takes Part In Autism Awareness Event

On April 1, entertainers from multiple nations came together to support autism awareness by performing at the Autism Rocks Festival. Celebrities such as Tyga and Flo Rida joined forces with husband-and-wife team Usha and Sanjay Shah Denmark to raise money which would benefit further autism research. The official DJs were Fever and BFG. The event also included a barbecue, various carnival rides and toys, face painting, and a petting zoo, among other activities.
Dubai-based couple Sanjay Shah and Usha founded Autism Rocks in 2014 partly to help their son, Nikhil, who has autism. They said that they wanted to push for more research to be done on autism, and believed that a festival would be a good way to draw in likely financial contributors.
Shah, a hedge-fund manager based in Dubai, is originally from the U.K. but moved to Dubai in 2009. He and Usha have three children. Shah originally studied medicine, but switched to the financial and investment industry after deciding that being a doctor didn’t suit him. Before starting Autism Rocks, he had sponsored children in India for ten years, but he wasn’t sure how else he could help in the area of charity work. After a conversation with Snoop Dogg, Shah was inspired to found Autism Rocks.
Shah uses his position as founder and CEO of Solo Capital to help organize events like the Autism Rocks Festival, and he recently spent $100,000 to claim the domain name “Autism Rocks” in order to start a website for the organization. In addition to his contributions towards the music scene to benefit autism research, Shah is also a trustee for Autism Research Trust, and has been the trust director since 2013. He and Usha have also contributed to the trust.
In the beginning days of Autism Rocks, Shah hosted a launch event in Café de Paris and invited 600 people. He raised £200,000 for the charity. Attendees included British comedians Michael McIntyre and Alan Carr. This event broke the ground for future events like it, including the festival.
Some past performers at the festival have been Drake, Michael Bublè, Lenny Kravitz, Snoop Dogg, and Prince, as well as a variety of well-known DJs. Shah hopes to create an Autism Rocks compilation album next year, asking various pop artists to each donate a track.
